Computing Equipment

1 - General software for structure calculations

In software, for 3D structures bars, plates and shells, we use ESA Engineer 2010 (and older versions ESA PRIMA WIN and ESA PT).
The main advantage is that, through our special partnership with SCIA and the joint development of certain software, we have in addition to the standard software, IOA specific modules directly suited to our requirements (see software).

In addition to the linear calculations, amongst the many SCIA modules, we have the following options:

  • Non-linear calculations, physical and geometrical nonlinearities (bars and shells),
  • Non-linear 2nd order calculations (bars and shells),
  • Dynamic calculations: natural frequency and loads and dynamic loads (spectral or time varying load),
  • Stability and buckling mode,
  • Control steelwork CM 66 and EUROCODES.

2 - Dedicated software for engineering structures


There are two solutions available to a design office in terms of IT:

1. Using standard commercial software techniques;

2. Developing personalised software.

The specific nature of IOA, in its approach, has led us to choose the second solution. In fact, by not finding a commercial product that was adapted to our needs, and above all, technically accomplished enough, we have developed the following software under Windows :

MIX-BEAM by IOA + SCIA: commercial software for the calculation of composites. This modern design software (Windows GUI) incorporates all current regulations and specifications to be used for composite bridges. It is able to fully analyse a composite structure according to the Eurocodes rules of calculation (1-3-4).

MIX-GRILL by IOA: software for the calculations of composite structures, being able to make reference to a model girder. This software is easily adapted for the analysis of different bias and tangents of bridges, even metal or composite box girders.

TGVDYN by IOA: calculation of the dynamic response of bridges with the passing of a TGV train.

CONVDYN by IOA: calculation of the dynamic response of bridges and walkways with the passage of a convoy of any definition specified by the user

TGVFAT by IOA: counting the fatigue cycles in order to determine the lifespan of bridges which are subjected to the passage of TGV trains.

We also possess licences for the following software:

ST1 from SETRA: structural design and spatial plans by the transfer of matrices (3 standard and 1 flexible licences).

HADES from SETRA: calculation of stresses in deep foundations.

MUR from SETRA: calculation of retaining walls.

CDS from SETRA: calculation of stresses in diverse sections.

VOUTE: calculating the breaking point in masonry vaults.

RIDO: calculation of flexible retaining walls.

Finally, IOA also uses the entire library of programs developed by its subsidiary IPSO@ for structure types, mainly:

using the lines of influence method and MM Guyon et Massonnet:

  • Options SLAB B.A., B.P. et P.E,
  • Option GANTRY : open gantries on elastic soil,
  • Option FRAME : closed frame son continuous elastic support
  • Options GRILL B.A.: girder and braces bridges.

PONTPOUS: launched bridges.

DIFFUSION: spatial study of the distribution of pre-stressing force to the extremities of the decks of any cross-section under Schedule 4 of the BPEL 91

RESERVOIR: stress of cylindrical tanks according to the theory of axisymmetric shells.

OZO: stability to the second order of masts and pylons of any section.

3 - CAD

The design is managed on 20 workstations with Autocad Version 2011.
We have also developed specific applications for structural reinforced steel structures.
